Plan A Medicare Supplement


Medicare Supplement Plan A is the most limited plan available but does provide 100% coverage of Part A and Part B coinsurance, first three pints of blood and Part A hospice coinsurance.


100% of Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs (up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used).
100% of Medicare Part B (physician) coinsurance or copayment (generally 20% of outpatient expenses).
100% of 100% of Blood deductible coverage (the cost of the first three pints of blood).
100% of Part A hospice coinsurance or copayment.

Does not cover:

Skilled nursing facility care co-insurance.
Part A deductible.
Part B deductible.
Part B excess charges.
Foreign travel emergency.

Medigap Plan A is one of the few Medigap plans that is required to be sold by all supplemental insurance companies who offer any Medigap plans.  Medigap insurance cannot be sold to those who do not participate in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B.

Medigap Plan A benefits include and exclude the following:

Plan A covers coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days (one year) after Medicare benefits are used up.

Plan A also covers Medicare Part B coinsurance and/or copayments, as well as the first 3 pints of blood required.

Under Medigap Plan A, hospice care coinsurance or co-pay is also covered.

Skilled nursing facility coinsurance, Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles, Part B excess charges and foreign travel healthcare costs are not covered by Medigap Plan A.
